Click here to ultrasound image of   Gallbladder Polyps Gallbladder polyps are abnormal growths that project from the inner lining of the gallbladder wall into the inner lumen (the space where bile is stored). They are a very common incidental finding on abdominal ultrasounds , affecting an estimated  3-7% of the adult population . The vast majority are benign (non-cancerous), but a small percentage can be precancerous or cancerous. How They Appear on Ultrasound Ultrasound is the primary and best imaging method for detecting and monitoring gallbladder polyps. Key Characteristics on Ultrasound: Echogenicity :  Most polyps are  hyperechoic  (appear bright white) compared to the surrounding dark bile .
